KOKORO MIXED MARTIAL ARTS - SELF DEFENSE & COMBAT SPORTS - HEART, MIND & SPIRIT
Kokoro Mixed Martial Arts Gyms offer those with an interest in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and Freefight the opportunity to train in a structured and realistic manner.
- Striking
- Grappling
- Takedowns
- Ground Fighting
Students will draw on the techniques from multiple full contact arts and learn to control the standup, clinch and ground games. MMA is not an excuse to ignore full and extensive training (as some MMA pretenders would have us believe). Equally, participation in this fantastic sport does not necessitate the total dismissal of traditional martial values, training methodologies and practises. We utilize the training methods of fighters and champions, past and present.
In order to become a true mixed martial artist, one must become proficient in a mixture of effective techniques and strategies. If we can learn to manipulate the three strategic elements of all round fighting (Strike, Clinch, Submit) then then are we put ourselves in a position to bring about a positive outcome to physical conflict.
Don’t be fooled by con men and amateurs who claim they can help you to ‘bypass all that hard work and training’. It just doesn’t work that way.
Black Belt Magazine - “Karate to the Core” an Interview with George St. Pierre, September, 2006
“I started Kyokushin Karate when I was seven years old. I liked Karate, like any other martial art, you’re alone. You decide your own destiny. I’m very happy I learned karate when I was young. A lot of people told me that it’s useless in fighting, but they’re wrong. I’m pretty sure if I hadn’t done it, I wouldn’t be at this level today. Karate made me a lot stronger, and it made me flexible and athletic like I am right now. When I’m fighting, I’m not doing kata, but I use a lot of kicks and techniques that I learned from Kyokushin.”George St. Pierre, MMA Role Model, UFC World Welterweight Champion
Kokoro Mixed Martial Arts was founded on 30th of August, 2005. We offer technical training derived from a number of disciplines, including;
- Boxing,
- Kickboxing,
- Kyokushin (Full Contact Karate),
- Greco Roman Wrestling,
- Submission Grappling and
- Judo.
We believe that the greatest benefit can be gained (in the context of self development) from combining each of these skills into a single system (Mixed Martial Arts).
Martial Arts training develops confidence, fitness, respect for fellow man and self discipline. Kokoro Mixed Martial Arts is a proud member of the IBK, a worldwide all round fighting organization that combines full contact striking arts (such as Kyokushin and Muay Thai) and grappling arts (like Judo and Submission Wrestling) under one banner.
