Seamus Cassells of Kokoro MMA Dublin Wins UFR Debut by Unanimous Decision

This weekends trip to Antrim was a blast in every respect with two Kokoro MMA fighters making their ring Debut. Seamus Cassells with an amateur matchup and Neno Platisa jumping straight in at Semi Pro following just 6 months of Martial Arts training.

Seamus Cassells (Kokoro MMA) vs. Brian Hill (Progressive Combat)

Seamus did incredibly well. After two rounds of intense action, Colin Robinson (UFC Signed Fighter on the UFR Fight Team) declared, “there were so many arm bar attempts even I can’t get this one wrong!”. Seamus taller and stronger opponent rained down heavy strikes on Seamus in an attempt to stop him in his tracks. In the end though, Seamus’ clean takedown skills brought Brian crashing to the mat time after time. With that, Seamus’ Amateur record got kicked off at 1-0-0. Congratulations Seamus!

Neno Platisa (Kokoro MMA) vs. Ronan McKay (Progressive Combat)

Neno Platisa is the embodiement of the very word Kokoro. “Heart, Mind and Spirit” is exactly what it takes to step in to the ring, directly at Semi Pro, after just 6 months of Martial Arts training. Unfortunately, this wasn’t to be Neno’s day. Neno threw a right high kick that left him off balanced then taken to the ground and mentally unsettled. Despite escaping several submission attempts, he was eventually forced to tap out to a Kimura in Round 1. A crowd pleasing fight and a great debut effort!

Davy Patterson, UFR Organiser and Coach of Ireland’s Top Team, took the time to compliment Seamus and Neno on their “quality” performances.

Congratulations guys! About 15 people made it up to Antrim to watch these Debut fights and you made us all proud!

Results of Dublin Weigh Ins for UFR Semi Pro

Weigh ins for local fighters participating in this weekends UFR Semi Pro Series took place at Kokoro Mixed Martial Arts this afternoon. Weigh-ins took place between 13:00 – 17:00 on Saturday 22nd September, 2007. The results were as follows;

Phil McRory – Rush Fight Academy – 75.7 kg

Dave Dwyer – Rush Fight Academy – 65.0 kg

Seamus Cassells – Kokoro MMA – 81.5 kg

Neno Platisa – Kokoro MMA – 82.3 kg

Seamus Cassells of Kokoro MMA Dublin to Fight at Chaos Fighting Championships

Seamus Cassells continues to progress in MMA. He’ll be fighting his amateur debut at the UFR Semi Pro Series on Sunday 23rd, September 2007. He’s wasting no time though and is already scheduled for a Semi Pro fight at the new Derry Promotion “Chaos Fighting Championships” on December 1st, 2007.

Seamus’ will take on Jakub Wozniak of Antrim MMA and this will be a Welterweight Matchup ( -77kg). Marty Walker, Coach at Antrim MMA, runs a very tight ship and we’re very much looking forward to the match.

UFR Semi Pro Series – Travel Arrangements (23rd September, 2007)

Loads of people have signed up for the UFR Semi Pro road trip to Antrim this weekend (Sunday, 23rd September, 2007). We’ll be hiring a mini bus and it looks like I’ll be doing the driving. We’ve ELEVEN people signed up for the bus at the moment (yes Aziz, your place is secured ).

Good luck to both Seamus “The Weasel King” Cassells and Neno “The Wrecking Machine” Platisa, stepping up for their amateur and semi-professional debut matches respectively. We’re all behind you lads!

Both Neno Platisa and Seamus Cassells will debut in MMA Competition this month. The hugely popular UFR Semi Pro Series will be held at the Ramble Inn in Antrim on September 23rd, 2007.

Neno and Seamus are very much looking forward to their matchups and Kokoro MMA Members are lined up to mob the building in support!
