Well Deserved Victory for Bowden at Ultimate Conflict V

Hard work pays off. Period. Just a few days ago, Johnny wasn’t sure that he would be fighting at Ultimate Conflict V, following the withdrawl of his opponent. It’s testimony to his mindset though, that he stayed 100% focused on being prepared to fight, training with fingers crossed!

Fortunately for Johnny, Fra McCaffery found himself without an opponent too and a quick match up was arranged. Fra fights out of Progressive Combat Belfast, one of Ireland’s strongest camps, so we knew this was going to be a great fight.

McCaffery was bigger, stronger and very tough, but ultimately Bowden was the more skilled fighter on the night and dominated in all technical aspects of MMA (striking, clinch, takedowns, grappling) and scoring criteria (control, agression, effort to finish etc). After three rounds, each a display of rock solid technique, Bowden was awarded a well deserved win.

Ultimate Conflict 2: Jonny Origan v. Gareth Lyons

Jonny ‘The Origin’ Origan is all set to get into the cage for a tough first bout against Gareth Lyons of Kyoujin MMA. We’ve received confirmation that he will appear in his C-Class cage debut at Ultimate Conflict 2.

Jonny is one of the smartest guys in the Kokoro Amateur MMA stable and it’s going to be great see how he fairs against his more experienced opponent. Kyoujin or a solid team with a top coach in Peter Lavery.

Things brings the Kokoro showing at Ultimate Conflict to six.

Johnny Bowden, king of the swingers and a “bloody nice bloke”, is about to get his day in the sun. We’ve received confirmation that he will appear in his C-Class cage debut at Ultimate Conflict.

We’re really looking forward to this matchup and it’s one we’d pay to see. Johnny is well prepared and he’ll need to be. His opponent, John Redmond of Rush, comes from a gym with a solid boxing background. So, we’re guessing fireworks will be on display.

The Dog Pound Gym – Newry

The Dog Pound Gym – training ground of Ultimate Conflict Ireland’s Mixed Martial Arts Team – have been good to us. So, it’s time we repaid the favor.

We’ve included the Dog Pound Gym on the website and we’ll be supporting them in any way we can. Those with a keen eye will have noticed that Newry has now been included as a training location both in the news section and in the website header.

We sincerely hope that this puts even more people onto the mats at the Border areas best up and coming mixed martial arts gym. If you’re in the border area and have an interest in competative Mixed Martial Arts, then you need to give the Dog Pound a call.

Dog Pound have loads to offer. As mixed martial artists, they’ve been around the block (established in 2006). They’re the promoters of Ultimate Conflict Ireland and have coaches from Boxing, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo backgrounds.

We’ve enjoyed working with them and we’re looking forward the benefits of cross training for many years to come.
