Cage Rage Contenders (CRC) Dublin - Results (29th September, 2007)
Various internet write-ups suggest that Cage Rage Contenders (CRC) Dublin delivered a quality night of MMA this weekend; here’s a copy of one that seems to give a good overview of the night.
(Note; the following is a copy and paste from an internet forum it was not written by Kokoro MMA)
Mick Leonard (SBG Irl) Def Phil “Billy” Harris (UK) : A good win for Mick. I thought it was a bit weird that this fight was up first on the card, but as was later explained to me it was to do with not having someone having to coach and then fight right afterwards? Mick didn’t look pressed at any stage.
Willy Hamill (SBG) Def Martin Begley (Antrim mma)
I thought maybe this one was going to stay on the feet for a while, but Martin got a really nice takedown early on. Willy kept his head on bottom and when the reversal happened he turned it around and was winning the first round anyway until his armbar to win.Charles Flemming (Next generation) Def Marius Simanaitis (Lith)
After Charles’ war with Arik I was expecting great things of him in this fight and he didn’t dissapoint. His gym mate Joe Ruddock described him as having “mad farmer strength” and he again looked really dominant in the cage last night.Aisling Daly (SBG Irl) Def Majanka Lathouwers (Bel)
Definitley a candidate for fight of the night. Majanka looked very composed and business like and I think it was clear from the start that this was going to be a good test for Ais. After an even enough tie-up Ais pulled ahead and although Majanka did a good job of protecting herself and occassionally trying to catch an armbar as Ais grounded and pounded through her guard, Aisling definitley had the momentum and aggression to win.Tomas Murnikas (Lith) Def Liam O’Toole (SBG Northside)
Gutted for Liam, to be honest. I think this was a really good transition for him from the MMA league, and didn’t look to be having any problems with the inclusion of headshots. It looked like he was going to ground and pound his way to victory but couldn’t seem to quite pick the right shots. I was a bit pissed off and the turnabout with the anklelock, but as someone pointed out to me “That’s MMA…”.Gunnar Nelson Def Driss el Bakara (Fr)
Gunni looked amazingly zen-like and composed. It was one of those situations where he looked so relaxed it was like he was just training in the gym, methodically getting mount and then calmly timing his strikes. He threw less from top than anyone else on the night, but he landed everything and you could hear the impact. Correct me if I’m wrong, but was Driss actually out from a strike when Gunni got the armbar?Bendy Casimir Def Daniel Thomas
Thought this one was going to stay on it’s feet as well. Bendy’s striking looked unorthodox but effective.Karl Roche (SBG) Def Andy Foreman (UK)
This was unfortunate, but you can’t take anything away from Karl. He looked extremely nimble for such a big guy, and was actively working on top isolating arms and whatnot when Andy verbally tapped out. I was hazard a guess that it wasn’t so much lack of conditioning as not being familliar with the pressure of having someone in top position who knows how to use their weight effectively. He must have envisaged a long night ahead and decided to call it quits. It does make me wonder what kind of preparation he had when stepped into to cage.Sammy Shiavo (Fr) Def Paul Jenkins (Wales)
I half-expected this to be another fight where Sammy came out and threw a ballistic right hand ending the fight in the first seconds of the first round. However, Paul Jenkins obviously is a veteran fighter and weathered the storm well. I think Sammy actually threw that looping right hand every time he was stood up or there was a break. Paul got one really nice reversal / takedown and defended himself well on the ground but in the end I think Sammy was in better shape, more aggressive and much quicker. Interesting to see the crowd responding so well to Sammy’s intro music (”duelling banjos”) and persona. I guess he’s fought enough in Ireland now that people are getting to know him.
