Kokoro MMA Dublin - 1st Annual Combat Challenge

This weekend was, without a doubt, the highlight of the Kokoro calender. I didn’t think it would be possible to top the pride I felt in our little club following the performance of the team at the Chaos Fighting Championship. I was wrong!

This weekend we had our first 1st Annual Kokoro Combat Challenge. 16 participants, each one a member of Kokoro, came together for a tough day of competition. It’s great to see that we’ve now reached the point where we can host a 16 man tournament in-house! I was blown away by performances on the day and everyone gave their all.

We structured the day based on weight and participants got two matches of 5 minutes each. We evaluated the performance of each competitor based on;

- Effective Grappling
- Effective Striking
- Effective Clinchwork
- Effort to Finish

and bonus points for;

- Style
- Spirit

The photos speak for themselves! Full contact to the body with strikes and kicks, full contact to the head (kicks only) plus grappling. Everyone gave everything they had. The experienced put on virtual MMA master classes on how it should be done and those with lessor experience showed just how far you can get with good old fashioned heart, mind and spirit!
