Massive Performance for GSP! Great News and Congratulations!
It’s no secret that I’m a HUGE fan of GSP. His style of MMA is a combination approach that mixes Kyokushin, Boxing and Wrestling. Sound familiar? His performance at UFC 79 was massive.

The UFC finally credits George’s standup game to Kyokushin. Something that George has been doing for years.

His MMA record is impeccable.

His “kickboxing” game is pure Kyokushin. GSP consistently puts himself forward as “Kyokushin Karate to the Core”. Arriving to the cage wearing his Kyokushin Black Belt.

GSP directly attributes his clinch, takedown and ground game to training with the Canadian National Wrestling team. Wrestlers are the dominant ground players/grapplers in the UFC.

Mixed Martial Arts Perfection.
Congratulations to GSP!
I’m one of many fans walking around with a huge smile on my face today. ![]()

He made Hughes look like a beginner. Can’t wait till Serra is injury-free.
Physically and technically GSP is a monster. If he gets his psychological approach to fighting in the UFC to the same level, I can see him repeating what Matt Hughes did - go unbeaten for a long time. He also comes across as a nice chap which is also a bonus! With his wrestling at the moment I can’t see anyone taking him down and submitting him. Who has the KO skill to beat him at WW?
That’s an interesting question. The funny thing is; GSP is most vulnerable when on his feet and in a boxing exchange. People don’t want to go “toe to toe” with him and that’s a mistake. He can be KO’d like anybody else. It’s more a question of “who has the confidence to go toe to toe with him” rather than the skill? Oddly enough; Serra has big brass balls at the moment. Will be a great match but if Serra relies on his clinch to ground strategy - he’s going to come out suffering.
