Kokoro Summer Submission Tournament 2009

Summer Submission 2009

What a day! Hands down the best display of sportsmanship, camaraderie and skills since the founding of Kokoro Mixed Martial Arts. The Summer Submission Tournament saw 30 participants, 6 medalists and 3 overall winners grappling their way through up to four matches to take gold in their respective weight categories.

Summer Submission 2009

Sadly, 95% of the photographs from the event are unusable (the various photographers forgot to focus before snapping the shots! Doh! ) but we’ve a couple that are salvaged and will get them up as soon as we can. In the meantime; visit the “Highlights” section and have a look at the highlight reel of the event!

Just want to say how proud a day it was to see everybody put everything into the tournament whilst ensuring that we had a safe, fun and competative day! Truly Awesome! I know it’s corny – but there were truly no losers today. 100% quality and outstanding performances.

Congratulations to our medalists and overall winners;

Summer Submission 2009

Middle: Levente Almasi (Gold), Dave McCormack (Silver)
Heavy: Johnny Bowden (Gold), Josh Coughlan (Silver)
Light: Keith Roddy (Gold), Derek Coleman (Silver)
Sub of the Day: Dave McCormack (Super Smooth Armbar)

Guys, we’ll get the full list of matches and results up online asap. In the meantime, I want to thank everyone for making this a superb day without a single hiccup. Extra thanks to Dr. Frank Antolcic for being on hand throughout the day and keeping everyone safe.

AWESOME!

I’m doing my Blue Steel face in one of those pics. :)

Brilliant day for the club lads. It was advertised as A versus B but it was a great day to unite everyone in the gym. Got to know a load more names and I’ll gladly roll with anyone who turned up today cause the level of control was brilliant.

Thanks to Shane for organising it and Frank for being on hand to fix any damage Bowden done.

Bring on the Christmas tournament and After Party!

Aww no pics. I blame Derek!!
yeah Shane the tournament was brilliant, sticking me against that nutjob in the blue top was even better;).
I lost in the end but i just blame Derek anyhow.
And Shane just stick to mma, rather than construction cause your cowcathers are shite ;) .
Om the other hand you could just blame Derek.
    I know i Do:D

“…rather than construction cause your cowcathers are shite…”

I’m not going to pretend I understand what the hell you’re talking about???

  5. Comment by Shane on July 25, 2009 21:55

Oh… I get it…. You’re talking about the “cattle grid” that you managed to slip through. I see that literacy isn’t your strong point. Still, at least you can get a summer job slipping under the doors of old people that have forgotten their keys….

    :-)

(On a more serious note – what an awesome day you had today. Really excellent performance!)

  13. Comment by Derek on July 26, 2009 16:12

It wasn’t fair on me that you have elbows that seem to bend in the wrong direction. Thats just wrong.

    And that takedown Counted!

  14. Comment by Shane on July 26, 2009 16:19

Excuse ME Derek, my bandy elbows are none of your concern :P

  21. Comment by Derek on July 26, 2009 22:49

I think its only right that I should mention my knee bar attempt on Hubert. Thats some Frank Mir shit right there. Without the end result tho! :( If only he wasn’t made of Muscle and granite.

  22. Comment by mccaff on July 27, 2009 00:16

Well done to all the lads who competed. The highlight reels really makes for great watching.

  23. Comment by davymcc on July 27, 2009 01:08

Some fine editing skills there in the video .
I like the spinning picture at the start.
    True cinematic gold there:D

So your a cagefighter by day and a cattle grid building, youtube nerd by night?? ;)

Seriously though the video is deadly.
Almost as deadly as that huge mofo Johnny Bowden.
    Almost!
